Be Not Unequally Yoked Together!
A very serious problem indeed!
“Be not unequally yoked together!” (2 Corinthians 6:14)
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what [b]communion has light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14.
I do not speak out of turn here by pointing out a problem which is most serious: “Being unequally yoked with unbelievers……!”
Any “Born-again Believer in The LORD” must be sure he or she is not yoked up with a unbeliever.
If and when one finds that he or she is linked up with one who does not belong to The LORD — or believe in The LORD — he will be tied together in an impossible and unworkable agreement.
One only needs to know one verse of Scripture to prove this point.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Note the difference now, that who one is in Christ: will be a new creature, and next, you will see that all things have passed away, and most of all you will see that all things are become new. Nothing is ever the same again!
For those who do know The LORD, they are new and changed, and nothing is the same for them.
But, for those who do not know The LORD, they are just the same old creature and have no understanding of anything new.
This is the most important point to understand before one begins a journey……..
You will need to be hooked up with a person who is going the same direction, understanding the same things, and desiring the same results.
We often quote the “Unequally yoked” verse concerning marriage — which is a absolutely must to have a successful marriage.
But the fact is, it concerns any agreement or yoke or covenant or any plans you are making; if you are unequally yoked, you will find yourself in trouble!
Many people crash on the road to somewhere, just because they got into a fight over which way to go.
Many marriages are not and never will work, as long as one is a believer in Christ, and the other does not believe.
They have two different hearts and desires.
It should not surprise any one then, when one who finds himself in trouble by making a bad choice of the wrong person — you should know that not all people are spiritual and the same as believers.
Most marriages or unions having trouble are today based upon this principle; you cannot mix with the unbelieving and have peace.
So a person who finds himself — or herself — bound to a unbelieving husband or wife, needs to understand the answer begin with the “I do’s”.
A person who is yoked to an unbeliever must never then even try to make that unbeliever understand spiritual matters; because a unbeliever has not The Holy Spirit, and has no spiritual understanding.
All one can do is pray God change the person to be a Believer.
If then you find yourself in a marriage with a wrong person, you have made that choice and you will have to work with the results of that choice.
It will not be easy, because the person you are yoked with does think totally different then you.
It could be a war to try to force that person to like what you like and think like you think, and for sure do any-thing spiritual.
It could be and most likely will become a Battlefield — a battle of lives and happiness gone, and all terror.
More scripture to consider:
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?
And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
And what agreement hath the temple of god with idols? For ye are The Temple of The Living God; as God hath said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My People. Wherefore, come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith The LORD,” and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters,” saith The LORD almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:14-18.

I was saved by my believing wife. God left the 99 and saved one of the lost through his faithful servant, my wife. Thank God she saw in me who I could be. Jesus asks us to bear a yoke like the one he carried up to Calvary. Our yoke is a light burden, but our cross/yoke is certainly unequal given the yoke he bore.
I’m in it. It’s awful. I was confused for years, as he is the son of a worldwide marriage ministry. He confessed Christ. He was involved at a church. I had no idea until after I married him that not only wasn’t he born again, he refused the Holy Spirit and mocked the manifestations of Him. 21 years of hell and I’m praying like I never have before. We are separated now and I’ve finally got room to breathe. It’s been so painful and confusing!
I know how you feel. It’s been 30-whatever years for me, since 1988. Keep your eyes on the Lord at all times. He alone is your source of strength. Scriptures for you: TRUST in the Lord with all your heart, never lean on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge the Lord, and HE will make your paths straight. (Prov. 3: 5-6)
Perhaps even worse is being married to a believer and sharing sweet fellowship, then the mate exchanges God for self, and all the believing mate dreamed of as they grow old together vanishes into a fight for survival instead of a dream life.
