Sitting at The Feet of Jesus
I have been reading through the book of Psalms in my personal devotion time with the LORD and I came across a short but powerful verse that just always moves my heart!
David was a man that knew a thing or two about worship! I believe he gives us a clue to authentic worship both personally and when we meet with others in this verse.
“Let’s go into God’s dwelling place and bow down and worship before him at his footstool. Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place, both you and the ark of your glorious strength!” Psalm 132:7-8 TPT.
The Psalmist speaks of “going into God’s presence” or tabernacle, and worshipping at God’s feet or another translation says footstool.
It seems the older that I become, the less that I know. I talk so much about worship, but it seems that I know so very little.
What is true worship?
When we think of the place of worship, we think of a building, a sanctuary, or an auditorium.
But genuine worship is not restricted to a location, it’s about the Presence of God filling the hearts and places anywhere that we meet!
The place of worship is more about the footstool.
A footstool is simply a piece of furniture to support or elevate a person’s feet.
I think what David is trying to teach us is that the best worship takes place at the feet of Jesus.
So much of our worship demands that people jump to their feet, but as I read this Scripture verse, it seems that authentic worship is more fruitful and humble when we are on our face at God’s feet. This is the place of worship.
May the LORD help us find the pleasure of resting in His Presence, as he is elevated and exalted.
