Are We Living in Perilous Times?
Indeed we are living in perilous times! A time where reverence and respect for God has been lost.
A time when respect for self and one another has been thrown out the window of life.
A time of eat, drink and be merry. Every man live according to what is right in his own eyes.
Secret sin! Many think that is exactly what it is, “secret” sin, but it isn’t because it IS known to God.
Secret sin is deeply rooted in the heart. No, we can’t see it, but God can!
Imagine that you are in a darkened room. In the room are oddly and weird shaped sculptures, sharp objects hanging from the ceiling, piles of stinky garbage on the floor and old furniture to stumble over.
In the dark, it’s possible to imagine that the room is really probably “O.K.” But light would reveal an ugly scene for sure; and then there could be no more pretending!
Wouldn’t the truth to our “eye” be a better kind of pain rather than stumbling and groping around in this kind of a darkened room?
With the light on, everything would be exposed; the room could be navigated without you getting harmed and it could be cleaned up, and there might also be things of value and beauty in the room that could be seen and used. If the light comes on, do we welcome the truth or rush to “turn it off”?
The world will continue cloak and hide in dark corners and connive and twist. And all the while, God sees.
We serve a God who declares every day that nothing in all creation is hidden from His sight. Be it good or evil, God sees and knows all about it!
God is Sovereign and He sees and knows all things, even before they are thought of in our minds and even before we act them out.
God comes to us with authority. He sees us in pain, he hears our cry, and he comes to our rescue with authority, scattering our enemies.
God’s authority is awesome! His voice thunders in the darkened skies. His breath clears the seas and exposes the foundations of the earth!
Do you know this God?
Do you recognize this God?
Do you believe in this God?
How many times have you prayed, but doubted in your heart?
How many times have you cried out to God, but then when you finished that prayer you decided that you’d just try and take care of the problem yourself because God probably wouldn’t do anything?
Do you know this God?
God is all powerful, and we as humans?
We struggle just to get out of bed some days!
God can cause the mountains to shake and the earth to tremble! God can also rain hail and fire and also bring cool breezes and soft rain.
I ask you again, do you truly know this God?
I think that many would have to honestly answer that they don’t.
We know the God of love. We maybe even know the God of correction. But the all powerful protector that would blast the earth aside with his breath just to save us when we cry out to him? Not so much.
I believe that we stop short of this God. And yet this is the same God! This is the God that we live for, that we praise with our lips during singing. So why do we not truly come to realize his awesome power?
Why do we fail to recognize that our pain is his pain, and that if we would just ask and believe, he would come with fire breathing from his mouth to scatter our enemies?
Exposing the dark deeds aimed to harm!
Do we think we don’t deserve it? I love this passage, as David quickly changes heart!
All of a sudden in verse 16 the storm is calmed, the clouds separate and the earth is still.
God Rescues:
“16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support.
19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.” Psalm 18:16-19.
God reached down and rescued David! God supports him, and leads him into protection.
God longs to protect us!
God longs to save us from our troubles! But at the same time, God wants us to call to him.
God wants us to first reach out to him.
God wants us to come to that place in our hearts where we realize that it’s not about me, it’s about you being the ALL KNOWING AND SEEING God!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I’m thankful that You care about everything I do and think each day.
Please search me and know my heart because sometimes I can become deceived about life, love, and even about You and Your direction for me.
Show me when I head in the wrong direction in my behavior and with my thoughts.
Then guide me back to You and Your ways. Amen.
