A Prayer For Hong Kong:

LORD God, we acknowledge that You are the King of kings and Lord of lords and you alone is in control of history.

Father we pray for Hong Kong and for those you have put in authority. May you give them wisdom, discernment, compassion and humility to rule Your City.

May they be filled with love for the people they serve. May they seek to follow the example of Jesus to be servant leaders and not to seek personal gains and favours.

May they be motivated by a desire to please you alone and not to please other powers/ authorities at the expense of doing good for the people of Hong Kong.

Father we pray also for the people of Hong Kong. We pray for those who are disillusioned, those who feel there is no hope.

May this be the time when they see that only you alone are unchanging and only Your Love is faithful. We acknowledge that our ultimate hope is in you alone.

Help us all to see that we cannot count on anything else but Your Promises through Your Word; that we cannot count on anyone else in our lives, but you alone who faithfully seek us and love us unconditionally — so much so that while we were/ are sinners, you sent Jesus to die for us on the cross.

We pray for our young people, especially, thank you for their love for Hong Kong and their courage to step up.

We pray for their safety as they protest and gather.

May you grant their patience and humility. Grant them wisdom to make good judgement.

Help them to seek to the good of the city as a whole and seek self-controlled, law-abiding and loving ways to stand up for what they believe. May you bring peace in situation of hostility.

We pray for the security bureau officials, our law enforcement agency, our police force and other security personnel.

We pray for the decision-makers that they are able to assess the situations wisely, balancing the need for maintaining law and order and respecting the protesters’ freedom of expression.

May they give orders which are practical and effective to achieve this end.

Father, we especially pray for our front line police officers.

Father, we thank them for their service and we acknowledge the importance of the work that they do.

We acknowledge that they are not the ones who push forward the controversial bill and they are simply doing their jobs, following instructions.

May you keep them safe, help them to have self-control and not be easily provoked; and help them to act in a professional way even under immense pressure.

Father, we trust that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us (Romans 8:26-27). We pray for all Christians that we will remain prayerful and hopeful.

Just as you could use nations and kings who didn’t acknowledge your reign in the past, you can do the same now.

Help us to keep trusting that you are in control and may your righteousness and justice be brought into the world you have created, at your perfect timing.

In Jesus we pray, amen.
