America: Will You Answer The Call?
Our nation, The United Stats of America, is in the midst of a spiritual crisis that has been enticed by years of silence, anger, grief and violence. Thousands of African Americans are screaming, “Black Lives Matter,” while others are scream, “All Lives Matter”.
This division is deeper than social injustice and inequality towards African Americans.
This division is bigger than the “separate but equal” clause.
This division is bigger than the racial tension between White Americans and African Americans.
This division is bigger than Alton Sterling, Sandra Bland, Sean Bell, Freddie Gray, Tamir Rice, Mike Brown, Eric Garner and countless others.
This division is a result of spiritual immaturity, avoidance, ignorance, seemingly benign prejudice, passivity and silence.
Spiritual immaturity goes beyond a person’s laziness to read the bible every day. Spiritual immaturity also entails a lack of spiritual equipping and spiritual ignorance.
Racism is not just learned; it is influenced by the enemy. In other words, racism is a spiritual stronghold that must be broken. There have been many strides to eliminate racism and the spirit of pride and control that follows alongside it.
Multi-ethnic churches that are intentional about diversity are springing up all around the country. This is the Lord’s doing and these multi-ethnic houses of prayer will continue to make positive strides by making all races become interwoven by the power of the Holy Spirit. However, there are other factors that must be addressed concerning spiritual immaturity.
The practice of silence and avoidance is a facet of spiritual immaturity that has contributed to this division. When people choose to deny the fact that African Americans are STILL being oppressed, they harden their heart to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
There is a huge difference between a matter of opinion and a matter of fact. Opinions are formed by experience, learned behavior and also matters of the heart. Matthew 15:18-19 (ESV) declares that, “…what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander..”.
Unfortunately, too many Christians are trusting their heart and not the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
We all know too well that “bad” experiences can change a person’s heart and point of view. In response, God is asking the church to examine their heart during this time. While we examine our hearts, it’s not the time to post hurtful or demeaning posts about one another.
Also, this is not the time to process thoughts on social media for thoughts are easily misconstrued. In fact, these thoughts should be written down and processed with a spiritual leader or a confidant. It’s understandable that many people will not be able to relate to the oppression experienced by African Americans, but that does not mean that they should ignore the cries of the oppressed.
In this case silence is not golden, it is ignorant. God is not the author of ignorance. God asks us to not lean on our own understanding (which can be ignorant), but to acknowledge him in all of our ways for he will direct our path (Proverbs 3: 5-6). Luckily, we have a Savior that can sympathize with our weakness and also help us to overcome them (Hebrews 4:15).
Church, be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Let the Holy Spirit change your mind and give you understanding. Then that understanding will lead to intercession, then intercession will lead each believer into finding the voice of God accompanied with the boldness to declare it.
Jesus is not coming back for just an African American bride or just one people group. Jesus is coming back for his CHURCH.
We must not allow this racial tension to take any more lives. Ignoring the pain and despair of the African American will only breed further destruction. But thanks be to God that he has raised up men and women who are not afraid to speak the truth of God.
Unfortunately, there will be men and women that have influence that have chosen to keep silent because they do not want to get their “hands dirty”.
Cowardice has no place in the Kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit does more than make us speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit endows us with power and boldness. In response to their cowardice, God will bring bold leaders out of the background to push the agenda of the Kingdom of God.
These leaders have lived a life of prayer and intercession and it will be exemplified in their leadership.
In summary, God is calling for the Church to declare that:
Black Lives Matter
White Lives Matter
Hispanic Lives Matter
Cops’ Lives Matter
Spiritual Lives Matter
LGBT Lives Matter
Refugee Lives Matter
Immigrant Lives Matter
All Lives Matter
In summary, God is calling the church out of silence. Will you answer the call?
