America, Our 248th, 4th of July!
Our 248th, 4th of July. Celebrate her!
“Who is this King of glory?”
Adonai strong and mighty,
Adonai mighty in battle!” Psalm 24:8.
It’s been 248 years since the 13 colonies of the fledgling Republic stepped into their epic role across the pages of civilizations empires.
Every year on this day (which is also my birthday and my nations), I become more aware of the weight of destiny this nation was purposed for.
Liberty and Freedom birthed a baby girl — 248 years ago. She had a first and middle name — ‘Constitutional — Republic’. And a last name — America, or USA, for short.
Whether she (Constitutional Republic USA) grows up to be the lady she was meant to be and realizes her full potential or not — is entirely up to her. I hope she does.
She has many land ancestors and blood relatives in heaven — who gave their all for her to have everything she has.
She had soldiers fighting and dying for her through all the wars. From colonial days, all the blood from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, to international wars fighting fierce empires, dictatorships and evils, many gave their all — so she could have what they would never live to see.
From the North to the South, the black and white farmers, sharecroppers, soldiers, from the framers of her birthday cards — her letters written to her from prisons to encampments, the many founders of this country who died penniless and poor and suffered many and were killed — all for the birthday party she is celebrating today.
All of heaven watches her every step. From God, her Creator, Benefactor, Saviour and Redeemer — to her citizens who made it to glory — are still penitently — desiring her — to reach her birth—potential, to repent from her spiritually idolatrous ways — and return to the sanctity and purity of her founding birth-name — Liberty, Justice and In God We Truly Do trust.
To me, It’s always been about more than hot dogs and fireworks. In fact, most of my friends were away growing up during my birthday.
So my birthday memories as a kid is going up to the 3rd floor of the big old house I grew up in, opening the windows, and us kids sneaking out on the roof at night to watch the fireworks display across town. Which in my little kid’s mind were stupendous. Today is a special day.
Even as a kid, I thought about the land and what God Bless America meant. I remember Mom and Dad watching the Lawrence Welk show growing up.And when Kate Smith would belt out God Bless America, it put chills down my arm. (Even if we don’t understand it — when God anointing something for a purpose — it is tangible).
As my father served in WW11 on a navy ship in the Pacific, a brother in the blue skies of the Air Force, and a Officer husband in the Veterinary Corps, I appreciate those who served, and remember those who gave their all. Service. Valor Honor. Sacrifice. Freedom. Liberty. It means something.
No matter how woke or weird or woeful things have spiraled out into crazy—land (in our government, courts, borders, classrooms, and yes, even in some churches), I still remember what our Flag stands for.
On a grade school class trip to Philadelphia, I remember seeing the Liberty Bell, reading the powerful words of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution.
My 10 year—old mind couldn’t fully grasp the weight of those documents, but I was taught men died to secure them. The teachers I had loved this nation, and weren’t ashamed to teach us the truth.
I was fortunate to grow up at a time when those things were lauded and appreciated. I remember what it’s all about.
Secularism can’t confuse me, propaganda doesn’t beguile me, and lying politicians get muted when they come across the television screen. I can’t reach for the remote control fast enough.
I don’t ingest fables or think fake news, if I can help it. My soul and my brain is not a dumping ground for atheists, satanists, cultural Marxism or globalist agendas. GARBAGE OUT. I haven’t watched mainstream news in years. I get my news from accurate sources. Settle for nothing less than true news.
I’ve lived in several places, but I grew up in beautiful Pennsylvania, and to this day, I can close my eyes and tell where the cow pasture is. I’ve lived in Delaware almost 25 years, I can tell you where the chicken plants and farms are just by the sense of smell — with my eyes closed and my hands tied behind my back. I can smell the air and tell if it’s a bull or a cow or a chicken….can’t fool me. (You can figure out the rest of this sentence …. ha ha …. but I know it when I smell it).
You know truth when you smell it. Don’t fall for revisionist history.
The word of God tells us to be ‘as wise as a serpent and as gentle as a dove‘. Don’t be hoodwinked, don’t be dumbed—down about reality. We know better.
Today — LOVE YOUR NATION— wherever you are reading this.
The Prophet Jeremiah had some hard words (Jeremiah 29) from the Lord to tell his people — the Jews — who would soon be exiled — taken captive by the Babylonians. God allowed this after many prophets, generations of pleading with them to repent — resulted in the final day — when their enemy — the godless and violent nation, would capture them, plunder all their wealth, take them captive. Will we in America strum the same harp on our Babylon’ river? Or, will we wake up in time, and leave our national iniquities— and return to our Maker?
God extends grace after grace, mercy after mercy, from generation to generation. Yet a point comes when the door is closed. The Jews were exiled for their generations of idolatry and gross sin, yet never abandoned or forgotten by God. God told the prophet Jeremiah to tell the people to pray for the welfare and peace of the land you are exiled to. God wanted them to continue, but the easy—life was over.
When the Jew sat on the rivers of Babylon, and they wept, they mourned the loss of their land, of former days. But they had remembered. They now understood they brought this upon themselves— because they didn’t obey God’s voice. Yet, God still gave them a hope for the future [Jeremiah 29:11].
Generations come and generations go. It was only 78 some years ago that those who experienced the horrors of the holocaust said ‘never again’. Yet we’re here again. Actions must carry a resolve to obey God.
Fast forward to October 7, 2023. Never Again happened. The horrible savagery done to innocent babies, children and elderly happened again. I’ve come to the conclusion, people really don’t learn from history. They learn from discipline. Loss. Sorrows. Personal, more than collective. They learn from the heavy hand of reality that comes to them. When they continually forsake their God — forsake His laws and His Covenants, Israel is no different than America.
Israel and America — the two nations that were more blessed than any other nation on earth. Two nations that have God in their founding documents and government. And yet two nations which sanction the slaughter and the shedding of innocent life from wounded to tomb. Two nations that still turn their back on God. What is it going to take to wake us up? We are only safe and secure when we honor the God of the covenant, and His laws.
God allowed a heathen savage nation, Babylon, to be the rod of correction against an idolatrous nation. And yet God loves Israel. Still. He has never — nor will ever forsake them. After 2,000 some years, He placed them back in the land never to be removed again. Never. He will rescue them again.
But like any good parent knows— there must be consequences for continual rebellious actions. If you give your 16 year—old the keys to the brand new car and he kills himself driving high on drugs — when you see him doing the drugs as he’s leaving the house — and you don’t try and stop him, by default— you aid and abet danger. You have not done him (or anyone he might kill on the road) any favors by never telling him NO. No must start young — or it will do no good. Patterns are set young.
America started to go off the rails in the early 60s. Tremendous blessings that came to us after WW11 — God’s rich blessings even on us,for standing for righteousness — gave us more wealth, industry, inventions and such than any other nation ever had so quickly. But like any spoiled child — sudden greatness and lavish blessings — excess — breeds carelessness, idolatry and moral decay. We’ve had so much pleasure and freedom; it took us into bondage. Very few can remain pure with great abundance. Just look at Solomon’s life. A lesson for us all.
It takes a soul of tremendous character and discipline, usually, a person or a nation, who has suffered a lot, to appreciate and guard blessing — without being debased by it — or going into sin. God knows — few know how handle great blessing. That’s why He tests His servants, and the nations.
Lucifer was kicked out of heaven because he fell in love with himself — He wanted all the glory. Only God is 100% pure in all motive, action and purpose. Love is pure. Only God Is perfectly pure all the time. Not flesh.
God will not sanction or codify sin of any kind. Anytime, anywhere. He will not wink at sin. If He dealt with His own nation in covenant — what makes America or any nation think that they will get away with anarchy, murder of the innocent? God never aids and abetts gross iniquity.
Boundaries keep children alive. Same for the nations. It keeps evil out and godliness in. (And our southern border is no exception). Without restraint and boundaries — a person, a family, a nation is destroyed. Empires rise and fall, but God’s Word will stand forever.
Liberty, Truth, Justice, Loyalty, Sacrifice, Honor and Love, can lead this young lady, yet, into her finest hour. Miss ‘Constitutional – Republic’ — we are counting on you. You can yet do it.

Liz, This is so beautiful…so heartrending, so touching to the very depths of our hearts and the heart of our nation. I just cannot find the words, my friend, to tell you this should go out to the nation. Happy belated birthday, my sister..You sure sent some fireworks up today! xoxo Sandi
Miss USA – still growing. Thx Rev.
Belated Happy Birthday!!! I’m so pleased that you wrote that it is your birthday.
I thought your post was really great.
This 4th July was so interesting: British and French politics were changed by national elections on this 4th of July. I am especially struck by the UK having its general election on such a date. It is a gift to the party who was against the man who had most control over the setting of the date. Maybe angels strongarmed the country into it!!
Dear Gwen:
Loved the comment about the Parade manure-spreader. Many quips come to mind :(> but I’ll be a good girl and refrain). Laughter is good medicine anytime.
Oh – grew up north of Philly- south of the NE Coal regions – in a place called “Lehigh County”. Growing up in 50s 60s, was not as ‘citi-fied’ as they said, as is now. Was 40 minutes from Quakertown (farms, Mennonite, some Amish) and an hour or so from lovely Lancaster (great bovine country, Amish farms). Wonderful that you still farm – God Bless you! FARMERS FEED THE WORLD- they are heavens’ ‘Agrarian Apostles’, a noble and holy profession. HARD WORK too.
I’ll pray for blessing/protection for you, the animals, and that Big Govt keeps its nose outta the chicken coops & livestock pens, ha ha. You go -Farmer Girl. -Elizabeth
Happy birthday to our precious country!!! Happy birthday also to you. Curious where you lived in PA?
I am a chicken/cattle farmer and know what you speak of. Heeheehee. Saw a manure spreader in a parade once, and the farmer had a sign on the side: FULL OF POLITICAL PROMISES. :D
Great post. Long may freedom ring, here.
Elizabeth, This so touched my heart! I am Canadian but have a real love for America. It is truly God‘s love for her. I held onto every word and will reread this again. Vacation Bible school in Arizona at 8 was my first contact with America and then my Dad were stationed in New Jersey for three years and I spent a year there. I love America and am praying hard for her. You really are Canada‘s big sister and I hope more come to know that! I too am still counting on her. From my heart, thank you. ❤️
Thank you for this reply Patricia. Yes, our lands are truly linked together spiritually (forged out of freedom) and geographically. Together, the great North and the Republic can yet be a voice for our Lord in the earth
Both our nations’ have much fruit yet – to yield – unto the daycof harvest – for King Jesus. Ah, Canada, she truly is a treasure to the Lord. I felt His pleasure – to say this. Shalom.
