Ahaz in the house of God Today!
The Promise of “A virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son,” was first given to one unstable king of Judah, Ahaz. (I encourage you to read 2 Kings 16:7 & Isaiah 7).
At that time Judah was at war with Israel and Syria kingdoms. The political agenda was to overthrow Ahaz and replace him. But when Ahaz learnt that Israel and Judah have become confederates against him, he feared and wavered.
At this time Prophet Isaiah is sent to encourage him on. An assurance of victory is given to him and his kingdom. God says the two kingdoms shall be reduced to nothing and made never to exist. I think this was a good word for Ahaz and anyone in our time that is confronted with chaotic experiences of life. And so, to seal this prophetic victory, the Lord required a sign from Ahaz, Isaiah 7:11 “Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.”
We know that King Ahaz declined this offer, for he in pretense said he had already believed, and therefore no need for a sign. But God gave His sign, encompassing the entire humanity but excluded Ahaz on this eternal covenant. That was the very sign King Ahaz would have needed but now he is not going to get the rewards and benefits of having “Immanuel being with him,” personally.
He will never be established as a child of God. It is all gone! We know the reason why King Ahaz refused to ask God for a sign, was because he was already seeking help from another gentile king. He had already made up his mind to the alliance, against which he knew prophet Isaiah was certain to protest. He was secretly using state wealth to lure Tigla-pileser to help him fight the two kingdoms. He wavered on different motives and settled on one that took God from his equation.
In another words, he rebelled from that which heaven was already offering free of charge and so, He ripped the Temple of God of its gold and precious materials to give gifts and establish his new alliance in order to acquire foreign assistance.
Today we see the likes of Ahaz in the house of God. The double Christianity, where on one hand the saints speak one thing as far as trust in God is concerned, but will do the opposite on the other hand.
This is a generation that uses the name of the lord cunningly in words only. Secret disaffection to God is often disguised with the “colour” of respect to him. They go on higher costs to formulate alliance with the “world”.
When attacked by the enemy they run to the armies of the world. When thirsty they fetch from artificial wells. And so what I see in the church today are people who will “Amen” every word of God but soon retreat to the “way out” should God tarry.
The Lord is clear on the consequences of them that tramples underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of His Son.
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel,” Isaiah 7:14.
Shalom,
