Aging and Its Divine Metamorphosis
I want to boldly say that “Growing older comes at you like a freight train sometimes!”
As the years go by, most all people will identify with that statement more and more! Some will say “It’s not going to be THAT hard…. why, look at me! I’m healthy, have a nice nest egg and lots of things yet to see and do!”
Possibly, all true! But facing the changes is a reality check friends! You can lose things quickly these days! And picking up the pieces takes time some suddenly don’t have a lot of energy for!
Rapid aging and changes can happen to some at 40 if life lessons and adjustments to health, stress and rest aren’t applied sooner.
However…. The Creator who designed our bodies to be affected by the passage of time does not leave us to sit and suffer and to fear being left all alone and unloved. He is never One to withhold care, withhold love, or the opportunity share from the heart.
Sadly, our American culture does not really highly esteem and value aging, hard learned wisdom, or those who are elderly.
We are a self-centered, goal driven, ubër efficient society. Many in slightly younger generations often view older people as a financial burden, less intellectually savvy and an interference in their pursuit of pleasure, self realization and success.
This was outrageously stated a few years ago by the then Colorado Governor, Richard Lamm. In a discussion of surging health care costs, he said that terminally ill elderly people have “a duty to die and get out of the way.” WOW!!!
Through the prophet Isaiah, The LORD says,
“Listen to me!
I have cared for you since you were born.
Yes! I carried you before you were born.
I will be your God throughout your lifetime —
until your hair is white with age.
I made you…
…and I will care for you,” Isaiah 46:3-4.
Growing old gracefully absolutely has its challenges!
I have started to see that with aging comes the realization of how physically close we actually might be to the Kingdom of God!
In a very real sense we stand on the brink of eternity! I’m shedding my earthly cocoon a little bit every day, and one day I will lift my wings and fly upward in full freedom!
We truly can understand that the final heartbeat is not an end — but a glorious new beginning!
“As it is written:
Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him,” 1 Corinthians 2:9.
The God who made us, also planned a wonderful future beyond the “shock” of growing old and ending our days on earth.
We can look forward to that time with purpose while learning how to walk out the journey of our later years in our lives, with grace, anticipation, well placed and thoughtful sharing and in the service of prayer for generations just a short distance behind us.
