Against All Odds!
Jesus brought us abundant life; He came that we might live life to the full (John 10:10). This is the greatest news, this side of heaven. However, we live in an imperfect world that is why Jesus reminded us that we are in the world and not of the world (John 17:16) . In this world, there are many who are trapped between a rock and a hard place. You might be feeling like you are swimming upstream and your target is to beat the odds staked against you. This is the kind of life Christ availed to us; to succeed against all odds, to enjoy even when everything else looks unpleasant, this is living life to the full.
There will be no need for faith if all we see is all there is. Faith would be unnecessary, if our intellect and experience is all that is needed to succeed and live purposeful. I will also say, faith is unnecessary in a perfect world; we won’t exercise it in heaven, it is needed amidst the challenges of life. As we all know very well, all the aforementioned, intellect, experience, opinions and strength of man, cannot suffice against all odds. It takes the supernatural hand of God manifesting in the natural ‘impossibilities’ of man to birth a miraculous turn around. Every child of God can and should live life to the full, against all odds. We are crucified with Christ; we live a supernatural life as Christ lives within us (Galatians 2:20). We are born of God and of necessity we overcome the world (1 John 5:4). There are lots of terror news and terror acts across the world, with news of disasters in different places, but the peace we have is not from the world but it comes from the Prince of peace- Jesus Christ (John 14:27). We are a different type of species, the bible says, we are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). This is our identity, showing us who we are in Christ; therefore we should take advantage of it and live to the full against all odds.
How do we thrive, when the world around us is striving? How can we lay hold on that for which Christ has laid hold for us? How can we enjoy life to the full despite the daunting challenges of the day, the tests of our faith from the elements of this world? This is all possible by faith. I know you have heard about faith probably more than any other virtue as one of the most important life-style of a believer. Four times, it is written; ‘The just shall live by faith’ (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38). This is how important faith is, and without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). I will also add that without faith, it is impossible to beat the odds. So let’s see how to walk in it. “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” 2 Corinthians 4:18. We beat the odds, when we do not look at the visible circumstances, but on the invisible! It is true that visibly, the circumstances are discouraging, however look not at them; do not consider that facts because that is just a temporal circumstance. Faith is not analysis; it is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of unseen realities (Hebrews 11:6). The things hoped for, are the unseen realities, they are the permanent answers you want to supplant your temporal visible unwanted circumstances. Unfortunately, many believers are suffering from the paralysis of analysis, instead of taking a step of faith trusting in the all-knowing God.
The only way to enjoy life to the full is in living a life of faith. Faith has to become your lifestyle because it is the only access point to the supernatural unseen realities. Maybe your marriage is at the verge of divorce; look not on divorce, do not consider it, instead see a restored marriage as you stand on God’s word and thank Him for it. Is your body ravaged with pain, tumors and sickness? Do not consider these symptoms to fear, rather see a healthy body as you declare by Christ’s stripes I was healed. Faith believes in God’s word and then it speaks; believing is not enough, speak what you believe as long as it takes and act on your belief, this will complete the cycle of faith in your life ( 2 Corinthians 4:13 & James 2:22). It doesn’t matter how intimidating or hopeless the situation looks, you are a child of God and therefore an overcomer. Remember the victory that overcomes the world is your faith; “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” 1 John 5:4. I pray for you that you will experience a miraculous turn-around, against all odds. Fear not, walk in faith.
