About Wisdom
I read the book of Proverbs chapter 8 and asked The Holy Spirit, “Why is WISDOM personified?”
The Holy Spirit began to teach me.
Wisdom is personified because it is a SPIRIT; it has to be IMPARTED; a GIFT, it emanates from GOD — Wisdom if God!
Isaiah 11:2 refers to the “Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding” as one of the essence of The Holy Spirit.
James 1:5 says that God gives Wisdom generously to those who ask.
Proverbs 8 presents wisdom CALLING OUT, GUIDING, and INSTRUCTING.
1 Corinthians 2:10-13 speaks of the Spirit of God REVEALING Divine Wisdom.
“The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.” Proverbs 8:22-23.
“When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: when he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: when he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.” Proverbs 8: 27-31
WISDOM has been before the foundations of the earth, revealing God’s Glory!
Solomon prayed and asked God for WISDOM (2 Chronicles 1:10, 1 Kings 2:10-12) . Because He sought WISDOM (God) all things (riches, wealth) were added unto Him.
In Proverbs 8:18-21, Wisdom speaks about the blessings it brings, which include riches and honor, but these are byproducts of seeking Wisdom.
Wisdom, a Divine Being has a Dwelling Place — Wisdom dwells with Prudence!
Proverbs 8:12 states, “I Wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.”
Wisdom and Prudence are closely connected. While Wisdom refers to understanding and insight, Prudence emphasizes careful thought and practical decision-making.
Wisdom does not act impulsively; it is accompanied by foresight and cautious judgment.
Wisdom and The Fear of The LORD
The FEAR of The LORD is the beginning of Wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).
Wisdom “dwells” where reverence for God is present which further emphasizes its Divine nature.
In the Book of Job 28:12-14 we read, “But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.”
This teaches us that wisdom is not a physical treasure that can be mined or discovered by human effort. It transcends earthly realms.
“God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof. For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven; to make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure. When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. And unto man he said, Behold, The Fear of The LORD, that is Wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” Job 28:23-28
Here we understand the personification Wisdom, it is an active force that embodies God’s character and it even has a dwelling place.
Wisdom’s dwelling place is not a physical location, but with God, not of human intellect.
The Spirit reveals to us its divine and eternal nature, its immortal dimension.
No amount of effort or wealth can secure Wisdom; it MUST be sought through a relationship with The Most High God!
May we seek WISDOM above all…!
