In a Dream — In a Vision of the Night

Today I came across an old book that I have which was recommended by John Paul Jackson fifteen years ago.

It is titled, “If This Were A Dream, What Would It Mean?” by Murray Dueck. In this book he writes about the way that The Holy Spirit speaks to us in so many ways.

He speaks through every day occurrences the same way that He speaks through symbolism in the scriptures. He also speaks in dreams, visions, metaphors, allegories, enigmas and pictures.

We have to learn to recognize the particular way that He speaks to each one of us individually and discern what He is saying. One way that He speaks to me is in dreams.

This morning I was reading a dream that I had in my journal from a few years ago. In this dream I was driving alone on a highway at night and came into very heavy traffic.

I called a friend from my mobile phone and I said: “I am just going to turn back and go home.” As soon as I said that, the traffic began to break up and there was a clear road ahead of me.

I said to my friend, “if I turned back I would have never made it to my destination.’ The dream then went to another scene where I was sitting down at a table eating with other believers. That was a warning dream telling me not to get discouraged by circumstances that arise to block my vision.

Some dreams could only be interpreted through direct revelation from The LORD. In the book of Genesis chapter 41 Pharaoh had two dreams. One was about seven fat cows and seven skinny cows and the other was about seven healthy heads of grain and seven scorched heads of grain.

The LORD gave Joseph the interpretation which was that seven years of great abundance was coming throughout Egypt but it would be followed by seven years of famine. After Joseph told Pharaoh the meaning of the dream, he said to Joseph “there is no one as discerning and wise as you”.

Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. That speaks of favor and the transfer of wealth.

Verse 49 says that Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped counting, for it was immeasurable. When the seven years of famine came throughout the earth there was bread in Egypt because of Josephs dream interpretation.

The Egyptians came to him for food and then his own family came to him for provision. They were reunited and he forgave his brothers.

A few weeks ago I had a dream about sharks. I didn’t think anything of it until this week when I saw that there had been several shark sightings the past few days on the beaches from Long Island to Massachusetts. One lady was killed by a great white shark while swimming at a beach in Maine.

I couldn’t help but think that there is something fishy about this or maybe even prophetic. I saw this shark invasion as an analogy of the arrogant and relentless attacks that we are witnessing across the USA. Spirits of rage and anger have been released across this nation through the media.

I also saw this shark attack as a parallel of Christians who are being attacked by what we would call the spirit of Leviathan. Leviathan was a large aquatic animal which some called a sea monster, (Job 41).

This is a metaphor of demonic powers coming against the body of Christ. I looked for the meaning of sharks in John Paul Jackson’s dream interpretation manuals and Barbie Breathitt’s Dream Symbology dictionary. This is what Barbie wrote about the meaning of sharks in dreams.

“Shark : To see a shark in your dream indicates feelings of anger, hostility, and a fierce emotional struggle or threat to a relationship. Sharks have a ravenous appetite so they can represent unscrupulous lust or greed that selfishly devours whatever or whoever they want with no thought of anyone but themselves. A shark is a worldly sexual predator who feeds on anyone he can get his hands on. It is a judgmental spirit of rebellion, oppression that attacks people unexpectedly; they represent a formidable enemy who is jealously working against you. (Isaiah 27:1)”

This is what The LORD is saying through this dream that I had.

He has given you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

You have the victory over the Leviathan in your life. You must recognize the spirits that are twisting the truth and trying to derail you from your purpose and destiny.

If you pursue your vision and don’t turn back you will see this principality dismantled in your personal lives, your families and your country, in Jesus’ Name.

“Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. You shall be [g]over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck,” Genesis 41:39-42.

“In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds, Then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction in order to turn man from his deed,” Job 33:15-17.

“In that day The LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; and He will slay the reptile that is in the sea,” Isaiah 27:1.
