A Serious Charge to Keep
After the death of Moses, The LORD called Joshua forward to do His will and to take over the work He had once started.
The LORD let Joshua know I want you to know that ,”I will be beside you and with you as you start your journey just as I was with Moses!”
I heard while I was praying this week The LORD say, “I will be beside you!”
But tonight as I listened to a woman of God speak, I had such a confirmation that The LORD is going to be with His People, just as He was with both Moses and Joshua. He also will be with each of you!
“Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.” Joshua 1:2-4 KJV.
The LORD did not just tell Joshua He would be with him, but He also told him a set of instructions as to which region and territories he would go into to possess, as he went on this journey with The LORD.
You see, Joshua did not enter into his mandate without a set of instructions and directions. The LORD spoke to him clearly and precisely what He expected out of Joshua, encouraging him that he would not be on this journey alone.
God always goes before and ahead of us to perform and to perfect us concerning the work He wants us to do.
God warned that,
“there shall not any man able to stand before thee all the days of thy life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will NOT fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Joshua 1:5.
He said to Joshua to be strong and of a good courage:
“For to this people you shall [a]divide as an inheritance (meaning Joshua was to share) the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to ALL the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:6-7.
The LORD is speaking heavily in this season.
Joshua was the leader, but he couldn’t do the work without the people — and the inheritance had to be divided among the people.
The LORD also let Joshua know that he was never to forget to carry out The Law;
“that thou mayest observe to do according to ALL the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:7 emphasis added.
Many times, we as leaders easily forget that should we forget where our help comes from, that is when The LORD shall cut off those blessings that He himself has caused to flow and every place our foot shall land, because of our obedience: shall likewise be cut off because of our rebellion.
“This book of the law shall NOT depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8 KJV.
The LORD was so pleased with Joshua that He let the people know should they not obey Joshua and keep The Law he Himself had spoken, they would pay a heavy price for their rebellion.
“Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.” Joshua 1:18 KJV emphasis added.
