A Root of Bitterness — Just How Serious is it?
It is always an issue of the Heart!
Good morning.
You will see in The Bible what that ‘root of bitterness’ can do!
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see The LORD: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;” Hebrews 12:14-15.
If Apostle Paul warns the early Church to be careful, how much more should we? Today sin is even more rampant and many are caught in ‘cords of iniquity’.
“Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope,” Isaiah 5:18.
The fear of God has departed out of many hearts in this age. As the Word of God teaches, we have to be aware of the ‘little foxes’.
“Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.” Song of Solomon 2:15.
“For the ways of man are before the eyes of The LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.” Proverbs 5:21.
In the natural, when a root gets a hold it grows! It is stubborn, and does not want to pull up.
How much more in the spiritual, if we let a thing just continue to fester and grow? We must allow the Holy Spirit access by daily checking our hearts.
Ask The LORD to reveal and bring to light anything that is trying to have dominion and bring bitterness to our souls.
Jesus will gently shine that light and expose any dark areas in our inward man. The Holy Spirit just needs permission.
We have to walk in the light as He is in the light.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7.
We must confess our sins quickly and keep a clean slate before The LORD. Daily we must come with a ‘heart check’.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.
Some talk against repentance, this day and age. I believe we must keep a repentant lifestyle with Jesus Christ. Let’s not allow ‘anything’ to grow and form a bitter root. It will defile us.
God bless you all.
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2.
~ Joyce D. McGuire
My name is Joyce D. McGuire, called to work in and for the Kingdom of God! To lead we must try to follow Jesus Christ closely. That is my heart. I am a Chaplain to the prisons; prophetic intercessor by His grace; author; and a Mother in the Kingdom of God. To many I am simply Mama Joyce. Some favorite verses of mine are Matthew 11:28-30.
Joyce; this is a very good word. Keeping our hearts with all diligence, for out of the heart flow the issues of life. Repentance is key daily and we must recieve the word of God in all humility. Thank you for this word.
Amen, Mary your reply touched my heart! Yes sister, repentance is key daily. Thank you much for commenting. Be blessed in Christ.
Naomi changed her name to Mara (menaing bitter) yet she still found her destiny and got to where she was going. Until Christians start going down to the Courthouse to change their name to bitter, i wouldnt worry about it. We need to stop the “holier than thou” campaigns.
Carol, I love the book of Ruth and reading about Naomi.
Thank God some will see the light and fulfil their destiny. It is to them we preach. Blessings and prayers.
Spiritually speaking, people in the church may be drinking bitter water from a poisoned well.
Received yesterday (Jul 28):
“Peter, would you drink water like this?

Kenyan girl collects water from a muddy hole.
Even more, would you allow a child to drink it, Peter?”

I was a Christian since childhood, but I didn’t receive an anointing until I was about 35 years of age. I became a psychologist rather than a pastor because I thought that the church I was attending was ‘dead.’ I didn’t receive the anointing in church, I received the anointing in a prayer group in someone’s home. God revealed the ‘Keys to Anointings’ with me. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a conservative church to receive the anointing (cf. Mark 10:25).
WHY? Jesus anointed a blind man’s eyes twice. I submit that the first anointing was for natural sight, whereas the second anointing was for spiritual sight. Some church leaders have partial sight, but they believe that they can see all that they need to see. The partially blind are leading the partially blind. This is WHY they can be deceived.
Peter Gross, thank you for stopping by. We surely must drink the pure water from the well that never runs dry! God bless
TIMING
Is there a link between bitterness and apostasy? There is a link between “chernobyl” (Ukraine) and “bitterness” (a plant):
“Due to the Ukrainian word for Artemisia vulgaris being chernobyl (Ukrainian: чорно́биль, romanized: chornobyl’, lit. ’black herb’)…
In the town centre of Chernobyl, there is the Wormwood Star Memorial, which depicts an angel blowing a trumpet, recalling the biblical prophecy.”
Wikipedia
Apostates may love God, but they love themselves more than they love God:
“2 People will be self-centered lovers of themselves…
4 They will find their delight in the pleasures of this world more than the pleasures of the loving God.”
2 Tim 3:1-5 TPT
I had an impression that Jesus may be in equal first place with self, the church, or the pope, but that is not acceptable to God. The interfaith religion places Jesus in equal first place with idols. The blood of Jesus has been compromised.
Bitterness settles itself in the heart to bring destruction to the holder of it. Good word and may there be many forgive as they read!!! Love, Diane
Amen Diane. I love you much my beautiful friend and sister.
Keeping our heart with all diligence is indeed a full time job! May the Fear of the Lord arise in the world and the church and destroy the spirit of fear and usher in holiness. Love and hugs, Sandi
Yes it is, Sandi. You said a mouthful there. Love you my sister and friend.
