A Kindergarten-Level Relationship With God
“These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.” John 16:25
When a child comes into the world he/she doesn’t know how to read, write, add, or subtract.
But as time goes on, the child grows and begins to learn through tracing letters, learning shapes, counting objects, and matching colors.
As the child matures, information is retained and applied, and they no longer need help with simple things. “see Jane run” soon becomes amateur language that now can be taught to the next child.
The same goes for our relationship with The LORD.
As we grow, we are to learn. We start off on milk: learning to read our bibles, the discipline of prayer, learning how to fast, etc.
We find an assembly where we can be fed spiritual food and seek mentoring so that we can make sure we’re on the right path.
But at some point, we should have such a solid relationship with The LORD that He now speaks plainly to us.
We should be able to know His voice, His instructions, and His presence. No longer solely depending on someone else’s word, testimony, or teaching.
This is obtained by learning to continuously dwell in the secret place of the Most High: going into your secret place and closing the door behind you. The ‘school’ of intimacy.
Yet, many Christians are comfortable with their kindergarten-level relationship with God.
They still want to sing songs, go to Sunday school, and play with their friends. But in this season, God is calling us to come higher: to pull away from childish things so He can speak to us mouth to mouth as He did with Moses (Numbers 12:8).
The sons of Issachar understood the season. It’s time to put away all that is distracting us from maturing in The LORD.
