Can We Lose Our Salvation?
I was just reading a short article on whether we can, or cannot, lose our guarantee of eternal life after accepting Christ.
Or in other words, “once saved, always saved?”
I decided to search The Bible and read for myself.
The following are the locations of all the 9 times the words, “Book of Life” are used in the Bible. I used the Modern King James Version (MKJV) here below.
Searching the King James Version (KJV) provides 8 results, the Psalm 69:28 verse being rendered: “Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.”
There is also two verses, Exodus 32: 32-33 which refer to the Book of Life, but it’s wording is different. They are included below.
Exodus 32:32-33 | And now will You forgive their sin! And if not, I pray You, blot me out of Your book which You have written. And Jehovah said to Moses, Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. |
Psalm 69:28 | Let them be blotted out of the Book of Life, and not be written with the righteous. |
Philippians 4:3 | And I also beg you, true yoke-fellow, help those women who labored in the gospel with me and with Clement, and others of my fellow-laborers, whose names are in the Book of Life. |
Revelation 3:5 | The one who overcomes, this one will be clothed in white clothing. And I will not blot out his name out of the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. |
Revelation 13:8 | And all dwelling on the earth will worship it, those whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain, from the foundation of the world. |
Revelation 17:8 | The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to ascend out of the abyss and go into perdition. And those dwelling on the earth will marvel, those whose names were not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. |
Revelation 20:12 | And I saw the dead, the small and the great, stand before God. And books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. |
Revelation 20:15 | And if anyone was not found having been written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the Lake of Fire. |
Revelation 21:27 | And there shall in no way enter into it anything that defiles, or any making an abomination or a lie; but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. |
Revelation 22:19 | And if anyone takes away from the Words of the Book of this prophecy, God will take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which have been written in this Book. |
To be INCLUDED in the Book of Life, means one’s name is there.
To be EXCLUDED from the Book of Life, means one’s name is NOT there.
To be BLOTTED OUT from the Book of Life, means that one’s name was there, but has been removed.
In Exodus 32:33 The LORD makes it perfectly clear in a personal statement to Moses: “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.”
I understand that many will find these words offensive as they go against their cherished doctrines and traditions, but there are the Words of The LORD and they cannot be simpler or more clear.
11 times in the Bible, the Word refers to The LORD’s Book of Life and 5 times in these same verses, we read that our names may be blotted out – that is 45.45% of all 11 references in the Bible to the Book of Life!!
Honestly, If this does not align with your theology — change your theology — it is clearly wrong.
I pray that The Fear of The LORD will help you concentrate your mind on what this means for your, your family and your lifestyles.
Blessings in Christ,

If eternal security is not true, then no one can know for sure they are saved and more than likely no one will be or can be saved because then it relies on us and our works vs in Jesus .

Based on Psalm 51:4 It appears all have sinned against God.
My thought here is along with the proof that our name can be removed that you might want to show how one keeps his name in this great Book of Life.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Dear Joi,
You rightly ask, “How one keeps his name in this great Book of Life?”
To have one’s name in the book of Life, as Acts 2:37-38 says:
“And hearing this, they were stabbed in the heart, and said to Peter and to the other apostles, Men, brothers, what shall we do?
Then Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Accepting Christ as one’s Lord and Saviour, repenting and being baptized, are the first steps to get one’s name in the Book of Life.
But to keep it there, we need to FORGIVE one another. As Matthew 6:12, says, as part of the Lord’s Prayer, “… forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.”
Jesus goes on to reaffirm that two verses later in Matthew 6:14-15, saying, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
As you know, The Lord reads our hearts, so living a life in love as Christ directed, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” is necessary and fundamental. After that, forgiveness is the key to keeping our names in the Book of Life. In other words, we must not harbor unforgiveness in our hearts.
Daily, we must Release – Forgive – Let Go.
“I forgive you.” “I release you.” “I let you go.”
You must also forgive yourself – and that is often hard to do.
Forgiveness will keep fear from us,d help us to align with The Lord and keep our names in the Book of Life.
I pray this helps.

“The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of His Kingdom (not out of Satan’s kingdom) all things that offend, and them which do iniquity…. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear,” Matthew 13:41,43.
