A Good Work – Carried to Completion
Based on the context of Philippians 1:6.
“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ,” Philippians 1:6 NKJV.
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ,” Philippians 1:6 ESV.
“And I am sure of this: that the One who began a good work among you will keep it growing until it is completed on the Day of the Messiah Yeshua,” Philippians 1:6 CJB.
“Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart. I am so pleased that you have continued on in this with us, believing and proclaiming God’s Message, from the day you heard it right up to the present. There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears,” Philippians 1:3-6 MSG.
Imagine for a moment that He who began a good work in us said that He “may” carry it through unto completion.
Imagine that His promises were scattered with caveats and contingencies.
Imagine that His work depended on us. If this were the case, there would be cause for fear in failure. There would be good reason for constant introspective examination with a particular emphasis on self improvement.
Yet there are no contingencies.
For those in Christ Jesus, He is doing a good work as we speak and He will not back down, He will not stop, He will not walk away. He will persist in this maturing process in and through us unto its completion. There is no cause to live in fear but there are an unending number of reasons to live with gratitude and joy in our hearts.
The one who began a good work in us is faithful. He will finish what He has started.
