A memory from years ago and an encouragement for those who need it.

I found a new level of prayer and worship today.

You’ve probably been doing this for years, but for me, this was not quite a new discovery, more of a long unrealised but now experienced expression of both prayer and worship.

We decided, real spur of the moment thing, to go to one of our favourite places to just walk in the woods and round the lake.

This time, my wife said, “Let’s pray as we walk!” We did, and I really didn’t expect what happened.

We’ve prayer walked before but only in a strategic take-the-land kind of way.

This time, almost as soon as we started, I felt as though we were suddenly, surprisingly, in His presence — our prayer centred around wanting that intimacy; desiring and asking for intimate friendship.

The Bible talks about being friends of God — and we really started seeking just that — to be a friend of God.

It was, for me, the start of a new level of worship that I had never before experienced.

For probably about half an hour we simply talked with our friend. It was wonderful and we planned many more such times of intimacy.

Just wanted to share that and encourage you to seek the same thing.

Being friends with God isn’t, I have discovered, a remote or pretentious impossibility.

Friendship with God is His desire too.

Isn’t that just so amazing?
