A Challenge For You In English, Welsh and Gaelic
I want to challenge every person who reads this post, whether you read it today, or at some — any other — time.
During the Hebridean Revival, a man of courage and faith stood in a meeting of his fellow believers and prayed this prayer.
He prayed the fervent, earnest prayer of a man desperately seeking God’s Face and His response to the prayers of His faithful people.
It was a brave prayer — full of courage — yet at the same time daring to challenge God!
The answer he received that night changed history as revival broke out in Barvas on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides — off the northwest corner of Scotland.
Hebridean Revival Prayer
“Oh God, you made a promise to pour water on the dry ground, and LORD it’s not happening.
LORD, I don’t know how the others here stand in your Presence; I don’t know how these ministers stand, but LORD, if I know anything about my own heart, I stand before you as an empty vessel, thirsting for thee and for a manifestation of Thy power.
Oh God your honor is at stake; and I now challenge you to fulfill your covenant engagement and do what you promised to do.”
I have had the temerity to change it slightly to fit anyone’s situation today, and I challenge all who read this to pray this Prayer for your village, your town, your city, your country.
Pray it on your own or pray it in groups — twos and threes, house groups, intercessors groups, Churches — pray it fervently. Mean it!
Grab hold of the horns of the Altar and hold on until you feel the answer has been sent.
Hebridean Revival Prayer — Revised
“Oh God, you made a promise to pour water on our dry ground, and LORD it’s not happening.
LORD, I don’t know how anyone else stands in your Presence; but LORD, if I know anything about my own heart, I stand before you as an empty vessel, thirsting for You and for a manifestation of Your power.
Oh God your honour is at stake; and I now challenge you to fulfill your covenant engagement and do what you have promised to do — pour water on our dry and thirsty land.”
In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen and Amen!
Welsh — (using Google translate)
“O Dduw, gwnaethost addewid i dywallt dŵr ar ein tir sych, ac Arglwydd nid yw’n digwydd.”
Arglwydd, ni wn sut y mae unrhyw un arall yn sefyll yn dy bresenoldeb; ond Arglwydd, os gwn i ddim am fy nghalon fy hun, yr wyf yn sefyll o’th flaen fel llestr gweigion, yn sychedu amdanat ac am amlygiad o’th allu.
O Dduw y mae dy anrhydedd yn y fantol; Ac yr wyf yn awr yn eich herio i gyflawni eich ymrwymiad cyfamod a gwneud yr hyn yr ydych wedi addo ei wneud – tywallt dŵr ar ein tir sych a sychedig.
Yn Enw Mawr Iesu, Amen ac amen!”
Gaelic — (using Google translate again)
“O Dhia, gheall thu uisge a dhòrtadh air ar talamh tioram, agus a Thighearna chan eil e a’ tachairt.
A Thighearna, chan eil fhios agam ciamar a tha neach sam bith eile a’ seasamh nad làthaireachd; ach a Thighearna, ma’s aithne dhomh ni air bith mu m’ chridhe fèin, tha mi a’ seasamh romhad mar shoitheach falamh, a’ tart ortsa, agus air son foillseachadh do chumhachd.
O ‘Dhia tha d’ onoir an cunnart ; agus tha mi nis a’ toirt breth oirbh gu’n coimhlion sibh do choimhcheangal, agus gu’n dean sibh na gheall sibh a dheanamh — dòrtadh uisge air ar fearann tioram agus tartmhor.
Ann an Ainm Iosa Cumhachdach, Amen agus Amen.”

Chris Bennett came to salvation in 1962 but didn’t begin ministry until 2007 — a late-comer! Now mandated by The LORD to prophesy and open old wells of revival in the U.K., but especially in Wales. He has also operated Healing Rooms, and worked with deliverance teams, all with his wife, Linda. Happily now doing whatever The LORD asks of them! Founder, with wife Linda, of their ministry The Upper Room Encounter.
