5 Tips to Hear God for Big Decisions
Sooner or later, you’ll have to make your move.
Do you go this way or that way? Do you take this path or the other?
There are decisions that mark a new season of your life and choices that lead to exciting adventures or new experiences.
After nearly 30 years of training people to hear God’s voice, I discovered a few tips that remove frustration from the decision-making process. Here are five of them!
-
Try not to focus only on the negative.
Having a decision to make is a good thing! But if your focus is centered around how difficult the decision is, it can be hard for you to see the positive. Shift your focus to thinking about the good that is possible.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful,” Colossians 3:15 NIV.
-
Expect God to speak to you.
God wants to speak to you … but you need to expect Him to! Yes, He even wants to tell you what He thinks concerning the decision that you need to make.
When you ask God to speak to you — with the expectation that He will — you begin to hear God more clearly and effectively than ever before.
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know,” Jeremiah 33:3 NIV.
-
Ask yourself which decision gives you peace.
It is possible for God to answer these types of prayers: “God, if it is Your desire for me to do this, then make this happen …”
But God wants us to become mature in our decision-making. Eventually God may not answer one of these prayers, and you will need to rely on other means to determine His will.
I have found that since the Holy Spirit is within us, we can now know God’s will by the amount of peace we have. God’s will always comes with His peace. Peace is the best fleece!
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid,” John 14:27 NIV
-
Be sure to get confirmation in more than one way.
If you have a major decision to make, be sure to get confirmation in several forms. Also, the greater the risk or cost of the decision, the more you will want to hear God clearly with peace.
The bigger the decision, the more confirmation you will need.
-
Remember that fear is not from God.
If you are afraid of getting stuck or making a mistake, that fear is coming from the enemy. You can break through this fear and enter into God’s perfect love!
I hope these tips helped you narrow down some options in your decision-making process. If you need more confirmation so you can have peace, I invite you to join me for my new online workshop: Discern God’s Voice: How to Know You’re Hearing Accurately!
